Have you ever heard of the Port Valet program?
Some cruise lines offer this amazing disembarkation program, at no extra cost to you, with the exception of baggage fees.
Currently, I’m aware that Seattle and Fort Lauderdale offer it, but it may also depend on the
cruise line and time of year. Let's dig in a little on what the Port Valet program is:
1. Don't worry about your luggage - Normally on the night before your cruise, you leave your
luggage outside your cabin, and they bring it to the baggage area at the port for you. Well
with Port Valet, you can arrange with the cruise line to have your luggage delivered straight
to the airport, and onto the airplane for you. You'll leave your luggage out the night before,
and then see them again at your home airport in baggage claim--magic!
2. Airlines - Many of the mainstream airlines do participate in this program. You'll get full
details a few days before disembarkation to see if you can take advantage of the program.
3. Don't worry about excess baggage fees - One of my favorite benefits! While you will get
charged the checked baggage fees according to airline rules, you will not be charged any
excess weight fees for all the souvenirs you collected along the way.
4. Luggage Tags - Remember to take your embarkation day tags off before placing your luggage out. You should also be receiving Port Valet luggage tags, so the crew knows to send your luggage directly to the airport.
And voila--the Port Valet program in a nutshell! Do you think you'd take advantage of this
program on your next cruise? Be sure to inquire onboard to see if the program is offered
before assuming you won't need to lug away the heavy suitcases yourself. We used it on our cruise to Alaska and it was a breeze. Our luggage was waiting for us at our home airport. Easy right?!
